True Colors

When I started blogging ten years ago, it was an outlet for me to express my thoughts and emotions, hence I called it Pondered Thoughts. Ever since I was a little girl, I was not talkative. I choose who I confide to and it will take months or years before it happens and a lot of trust. I always knew I was better at writing my thoughts more than expressing it. I am not sure if it’s the fact that I am shy or it is because I am always wary of how my words will come out to the other person. I choose my words carefully and I spend a lot of time thinking about it, unless when I am pretty upset or mad – you know that build up emotions that are just waiting to burst? (which calls for a different blog post). I am a very sensitive person, how someone’s thoughts are worded and spoken gets to me. Something that another person might see as odd or weird, but that’s how I am.

I am sure you are familiar with the song “True Colors” from the movie, Trolls. Yes, I watched it and mind you…I cried during that scene where they’re singing the song. And the song gets me – every. single. time.

“So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful…”

Isn’t this the sweetest thing? Nowadays, we live in a society that dictates to us who we should be. Every where we look, we are surrounded with this perfect image of how we should be living our life. We are surrounded by people who have this vogue idea of who we are. And in moments where we show our vulnerable side, our true self….most often than not, we are judged or ridiculed. Perhaps lost a few friends? In worse cases, abandoned and neglected. This is the reality of life.

“So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful (they’re beautiful)
Like a rainbow…”

But then again, there are those who are not afraid to accept you and love you just the way you are. Have you ever met someone who you can be who you truly are? No pretensions. No masks. No hiding. Just you. Raw. Honest. Ugly. Weak. Lost. Someone who can see through your soul.

And stay…?

“And I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you.”
